Connect Four Controller

The "Connect Four" controller is designed for the control of music or live images. Through a game of connect four, users can generate unique evolving sound and visual compositions based on the placement of the tokens.
The board itself consists of 42 photo-resistors and 42 LED lights implemented so that when a token is dropped into the board, its exact location can be determined.
The photo-resistors were wired through two multiplexors to an micro-controller connected to a computer running Max/MSP/Jitter.
The interface allows a game to be played that generates a muiscal or visual compostion.

The idea behind the controller was to bring people together via a familiar interface and involve the players in creating an audio or visual compostion. The algorithmic aspect of the music allows the users to create music without having to understand the basics of music theory or composition.
